Our Community

Our SCTG members are professional and qualified city guides. We are proud of our links to Cambridge, and energetically support the community, local projects, charities, and associations with close links to the city. Many of our guides give their time and guiding services free of charge for these good causes.

The Society has for many years been involved with Bridge the Gap, an annual charitable walking route through the town and Cambridge colleges which raises funds for local charities Romsey Mill and Arthur Rank Hospice. Volunteer guides are there to answer questions about the colleges and entertain the walkers with fascinating facts and stories along the route.

Free tours are offered by our members for the University of Cambridge’s Open Cambridge programme, which is part of the UK’s Heritage Open Days. We offer a range of walking tours from general town tours to those focusing on intriguing specialist subjects. We receive very positive reviews from participants who often discover aspects of Cambridge they were previously unaware of.

Walking Tours of Cambridge

Historically, SCTG guides have supported the Museum of Cambridge, providing insightful and informative guided walks focussing on the fascinating, but lesser-known history and heritage of the town.

Tours featuring the many remarkable public artworks on view in the city area feature of Cambridge BID’s Arts Festival and are led by SCTG Guides. We also offer regular orientation tours as part of the University’s Newcomers and Visiting Scholars programme.

Our members are proud to be involved in promoting the rich culture and community of the city of Cambridge
