Having worked for the Cambridgeshire Education Authority for over thirty years, as teacher and administrator, I became a fully qualified and registered Cambridge Tour Guide in 2004.
I studied History at Queens’ College Cambridge in the 1960s and, having lived and worked in and around Cambridge for six decades, have developed a deep affection for, and knowledge of, the city and university. I much enjoy passing on information about the historical and geographical development of the area to visitors from near and far, including students: then explaining how ‘town and gown’ have managed to co-exist, and subsequently thrive.
Tours include entertaining stories about various aspects of the town/city, university and the many different colleges (there are 31 in total), such as King’s and Queens’. The tales include many people both of the town and university and involve alumni such as Erasmus, Newton, Darwin, Hawking, Turing and many others. There is much to discuss and enjoy.
